Jeff Coffin is a world-renowned saxophonist, composer, and educator celebrated for his work with both the Dave Matthews Band and Béla Fleck & the Flecktones, as well as for his ever-expanding body of solo projects. A three-time Grammy Award winner, Coffin’s sound is defined by fearless exploration and genre-bending creativity—fusing elements of jazz, funk, world music, and rock into a voice that is entirely his own. Whether performing on global stages or leading his dynamic ensemble, the Mu’tet, Coffin approaches music as a living conversation, continuously evolving with each performance and collaboration.
Beyond the spotlight, Coffin is a passionate advocate for music education and cultural connection. As a faculty member at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music, he has inspired countless students through his commitment to improvisation and creative development, having led hundreds of workshops and clinics around the world. He is also the founder of Ear Up Records and co-founder of AfricaNashville—initiatives that promote artistic independence and cross-cultural collaboration between African and American musicians. Coffin’s work reflects a deep belief that music is both a personal journey and a universal language—one that, when shared, can educate, unite, and uplift communities everywhere.
Last week we got to visit Jeff at his studio in Nashville. He’s been performing and recording through Asterope for years, and has been using Asterope’s traditional speaker solutions on his rig. We were both totally blown away at what a difference the upgrade to the heavier Pro Speaker Series made. Here’s his reaction:
“It’s hard to believe that cables can make this much of a difference but I gotta tell ya... I’m converted! It seems to me like I get 20-30% more from my mic and from the signal going into my box with Asterope. My PMC monitors also went from great to awesome with the switch. I don’t geek out over gear but I am over this. A cable? Well done folks!!!”
