Giovanni Rodriguez has become one of those musicians who seems woven into the fabric of Nashville’s music community. A gifted bassist, percussionist, bandleader, arranger, and collaborator, Giovanni brings an extraordinary depth of musicianship to everything he touches, but what stands out just as much is the energy he creates around other people. His love for Latin jazz, Afro-Caribbean rhythm, improvisation, and musical excellence is matched by a genuine commitment to the musicians around him. He has a way of making great players want to play together, and audiences feel as though they are part of something rather than simply watching it.

There may be no better setting for that spirit than Rudy’s Jazz Room. Intimate, warm, and built around the experience of live music, Rudy’s is one of Nashville’s true musical jewels. Inside that small room, the distance between artist and audience nearly disappears. The sound is immediate, the crowd is engaged, dancers move alongside listeners, and Latin jazz feels less like a genre being presented and more like a living culture being shared. Giovanni and 12 Manos fit that room beautifully, bringing together rhythm, virtuosity, joy, and the kind of spontaneous collaboration that makes live music unforgettable.

What we admire most about Giovanni is the care behind it all. He honors the music, respects the musicians, encourages collaboration, and continually helps create spaces where great playing can flourish. He has also been incredibly generous to Asterope over the years, often acknowledging his cable and our work from the stage, something we never take for granted. But the greater appreciation runs in the other direction. We are grateful for Giovanni, for 12 Manos, for Rudy’s, and for everyone who continues to keep this vibrant corner of Nashville’s musical culture alive! Experience their amazing music! HERE >>
